Terms of Service
For everyone who uses EventU: buyers, attendees and account holders.
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This document is a draft awaiting legal review. Highlighted text in square brackets is still to be confirmed.
About These Terms
EventU is an online ticketing platform at eventu.co.za, run by [EventU to confirm: registered name of the business that operates EventU], [EventU to confirm: legal form and place of registration, for example a private company registered in South Africa], registration number [EventU to confirm: CIPC registration number] ("EventU", "we", "us").
These terms apply when you visit the site, create an account, buy or resell a ticket, or attend an event you found here. By doing any of those you agree to them. If you sell tickets or offer services on EventU, the Organiser Terms also apply to you. How we handle your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 or any other law that cannot be waived.
Our Role and the Organiser’s Role
Events on EventU are created and run by independent organisers. When you buy a ticket, you buy it from the organiser. We sell it on the organiser’s behalf, take the payment through our payment provider Paystack, deliver your ticket and run the check-in tools at the door.
The organiser is responsible for the event itself: the date, venue, line-up, safety, entry rules and any refunds under their policy. Their name is shown on the event page and on your ticket.
Your Account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account or buy a ticket. A younger person may attend on a ticket an adult bought for them, if the event’s age rules allow it.
- Keep your details accurate and your password private.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at booking@eventu.co.za if you think someone else has used it.
- You can buy without an account. You can ask us to delete your account at any time from your privacy dashboard.
Buying Tickets
- Prices are in South African rand. The total shown at checkout is exactly what you pay. EventU charges buyers no booking fee: our 3% platform fee is paid by the organiser out of their share.
- Some events offer optional extras at checkout. You choose them, and their price is shown in your total before you pay.
- When you start checkout we hold your tickets for 30 minutes. If you do not finish paying in that time, the tickets are released to other buyers.
- Payments are processed by Paystack. Your full card number goes only to Paystack, never to us.
- Your order is confirmed only once Paystack confirms the payment. We then email your tickets and they appear in your account.
- Each ticket carries the attendee’s name and email address, and phone number if given. If you buy for someone else, give their correct details and make sure they are happy for you to share them with us and the organiser.
- The organiser may limit how many tickets one order can include.
Your Ticket and Entry
- Your ticket is a QR code. Each code admits one person once. Whoever presents it first is let in, so do not post it publicly.
- The organiser and their door staff may refuse entry for a lawful reason, such as the event’s age limit, the venue’s rules, safety, or behaviour that puts others at risk.
- Tickets bought while signed in also appear in your account, so you can find them if you lose the email.
Food and Drink Choices
Some events include a meal or drink choice with the ticket. You pick it at checkout. Choices lock in at the time shown on the event, which is 72 hours before the event starts unless the organiser sets another time or locks in early. At lock-in the caterer receives the final numbers and choices can no longer be changed. If a dish runs out, the organiser may substitute it.
Dietary and allergen information comes from the caterer, not from EventU. If you have an allergy, confirm with the organiser before the event.
Refunds and Cancellations
- Each organiser sets their own refund policy, and it is shown at checkout before you pay. Refund requests go to the organiser, who decides them under that policy.
- If an organiser has not published a refund policy, contact them before paying if you need to know their cancellation terms.
- Whatever the organiser’s policy says, your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 still apply.
- If the organiser cancels the event, you get back what you paid for your ticket.
- We pay approved refunds through Paystack, back to the card or account you paid with. Your bank decides how long it takes to appear.
Reselling a Ticket
Where resale is available for an event, you can resell a ticket you can no longer use through the EventU resale marketplace.
- The price can be at most 50% above what the ticket originally cost.
- Listings are offered to buyers in the order they were listed.
- When your ticket sells, its QR code is cancelled and the buyer gets a new ticket in their name. You can no longer use the old one.
- What you are paid for a sold ticket, and how and when: [EventU to confirm: what a resale seller is paid, and how and when].
- You confirm that the ticket is yours to sell and has not been used, copied or sold elsewhere.
If you buy a resale ticket:
- If you do not attend, you are not refunded, because the seller has already given up their place.
- If your ticket is refused at the door because it was not valid, you get back what you paid, and the seller must repay us.
- If the event is cancelled: [EventU to confirm: who refunds a resale buyer when the event is cancelled].
Photos and the Event Gallery
Events may be photographed, and the organiser or their photographer may post photos to the event’s gallery on EventU. If you appear in a photo and want it removed, use Request Removal on the photo in the gallery, or ask from your ticket page. If you upload anything yourself, you confirm you have the right to, and you allow us and the organiser to show it in that event’s gallery.
Lost and Found
Some events have a lost and found desk on EventU, open from the start of the event until 7 days after it ends. Reports go to the organiser, who handles them. EventU does not hold or collect lost property.
Using EventU Fairly
You may not:
- use bots or scripts to buy tickets or get around purchase limits;
- buy with a card or account you are not allowed to use;
- copy, forge or sell fake or duplicate tickets;
- scrape the site or interfere with its security or availability;
- post content that is unlawful, abusive or someone else’s work.
We may cancel orders or suspend accounts that break these rules.
Messages We Send You
We send the messages needed to deliver your order, such as your confirmation, your tickets and important changes to your event. Marketing messages are sent only if you opted in. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email, by replying STOP to a WhatsApp message or by emailing privacy@eventu.co.za.
Our Liability
Because the organiser runs the event, we are not responsible for how it is run, except where the law makes us responsible. We do not limit liability that the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 does not allow us to limit, or loss caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will tell account holders about changes that matter. A ticket you already bought stays under the terms that applied when you bought it.
Disputes and Governing Law
If something goes wrong, contact us first and we will try to put it right. These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and disputes go to [EventU to confirm: court division for disputes]. You may also have the right to approach the National Consumer Commission or an accredited industry ombud.
